What is an EF-4 Tornado?
An EF-4 tornado is a classification on the Enhanced Fujita (EF) Scale, which measures tornado intensity based on estimated wind speeds and the resulting damage. EF-4 tornadoes have wind speeds ranging from 166 to 200 mph and are among the most powerful storms on Earth.
These tornadoes can cause catastrophic damage, completely leveling well-built homes, throwing vehicles long distances, and tearing apart large commercial structures. Trees are often debarked, and debris from buildings can be carried miles away.
EF-4 tornadoes are rare but extremely dangerous. They can strike with little warning and leave widespread destruction in their wake. People in tornado-prone areas should have a storm shelter or safe room to protect themselves from these life-threatening storms.
Proper preparedness, including having an emergency plan, staying informed about weather conditions, and seeking shelter immediately when a tornado warning is issued, is crucial for survival during an EF-4 tornado.
