November 2024 Tornado Outbreak in Central Oklahoma
In early November 2024, central Oklahoma got hit hard by a tornado outbreak that left a big mark on the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed multiple tornadoes, including some powerful EF3s. These storms caused serious damage, especially in places like eastern Oklahoma City and the towns of Comanche and Harrah. In total, there were at least nine confirmed tornadoes in Oklahoma, making it one of the busiest Novembers for tornadoes in the state’s history.
Over 99,000 homes and businesses lost power, and at least 11 people were hurt. Areas near Tinker Air Force Base and Harrah were hit especially hard, with mobile homes flipped over and vehicles tossed around. Emergency crews worked around the clock to rescue people trapped in the wreckage.
Governor Kevin Stitt declared a state of emergency for six counties and made restoring power—especially to polling places—a top priority with Election Day right around the corner. Local shelters opened their doors to help families who had lost everything, while cleanup crews started tackling the mess left behind.
