One of our most frequently asked questions is “Do I have to get a permit before you install my storm shelter?” INSIDE CITY LIMITS: The answer is almost always YES! Each city has different rules & regulations, so the cost of the permit and process will vary. Almost every city will require an application & an engineer drawing of the specifications of your storm shelter, which you get from us. OUTSIDE CITY LIMITS: Rarely, but it’s best to check with your county just to be sure. The information below is subject to change at any time. Bethany The residential building permit can be picked up at Bethany City Hall. You will need the Engineered Specifications per FEMA 320/ICC 500** (Contact Sprague’s Backhoe for these documents.) Blanchard Please contact the City of Blanchard for information about obtaining a storm shelter permit (405) 485-9392. UPDATE (4/30/2020): Permit cost with the city of Blanchard is $29.50. Choctaw The Storm Shelter Permit Application can be downloaded here and filed at Choctaw City Hall. Please refer to the application for items needed to obtain a Storm Shelter Permit in Choctaw. Edmond $55.00 + $0.03 per square foot of the gross footage for the structure and shelter/safe room. Moore In Moore, a storm shelter permit costs $30 + an additional $4.50 fee that is submitted to the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission. Site Plan (for outside shelters) Submit the information in person Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 420 W Main St., 8th Floor. Your request will be reviewed while you wait.
